What is the Cadillac CT6?
Since Johan de Nysschen has headed up Cadillac, the luxury brand has been sending waves throughout the automotive industry. With the announcement of a new long-wheelbase sedan, likely to be dubbed CT8 or CT9, our favorite luxury brand looks to be taking up the challenge of squaring off directly against luxury imports like Mercedes-Benz. But the new long-wheelbase sedan isn’t the only new vehicle that has been confirmed, as GM has also verified a Cadillac CT6. While you may seen the Cadillac CT6 name floating around the Internet, it probably left you asking, “What is the Cadillac CT6?” Don’t worry, we have some answers for you, despite being a year away from production on the all-new model.
Designed to the the brand’s flagship sedan, the Cadillac CT6 will gets its power from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V-6 that will pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mark Reuss, product chief of General Motors and the man who recently revealed details on the CT6, claims that engine will be the most powerful six-cylinder gas engine in the segment.
Despite the Cadillac CT6 being about 20 centimeters longer than the current Cadillac CTS, Ruess also stated that the Cadillac CT6 will be more than 22 kilograms lighter than the existing sedan. If those measurements are true, the Cadillac CT6 should be approximately 517 cm long and will weigh around 1,617 kilograms.
Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version of the Cadillac CT6 will be available. And to that, Reuss stated that it could get approximately 70 mpg. It also would be a big step for Cadillac in terms of building off the recently released Cadillac ELR, which is 100 percent electric.
With production slated for late 2015, we still have a long time to wait until the Cadillac CT6 is on the Don Wheaton lot, but it’s nice to know big things (literally) are in store for the future. For now, we’ll continue offering the Cadillac XTS as the luxury brand’s flagship sedan, and of course, keep you posted on any significant updates about the Cadillac CT6.
