WardsAuto’s 10 Best Engines
The 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray is one of the most sought-after vehicles to populate the Don Wheaton inventory. It is sleek, it is powerful, its as close to automotive perfection as anything else built on this continent. The secret behind much of the praise the vehicle has received is not much of a secret at all. The LT1 Small Block, 6.2-liter, V-8 engine that sits under the hood of each 2015 Stingray has repeated as an entry on WardsAuto’s 10 Best Engines list for the 2015 model-year. WardsAuto closely examined 37 different engines and associated components from a dozen different manufacturers, the evaluation team dissected the engines’ available power, fuel-efficiency, new technology and refinement.
“This recognition is another step in earning customers for life,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president, GM Global Powertrain said in a Chevy press release. “Having the WardsAuto experts choose the LT1 as one of the best in the industry two years in a row is proof of what this Powertrain team can deliver – uncompromised performance, durability and efficiency that helps make the Stingray one of the best sports cars in the world today.”
It’s relatively rare for an engine to repeat as an inclusion on the WardsAuto’s 10 Best Engines list. However, the LT1 engine remains just as impressive as it was when it originally debuted. The award-winning engine is a fifth generation of the famous Chevy small block engine, increases in power and fuel-economy have come thanks to the 10 million hours of computing that hand to happen during the development process. This same technology has gone to appear in the engine designs for most pickup trucks and full-size SUVs that come from under the General Motors umbrella.
Some of the specifications that come with the Stingray’s LT1 engine are an SAE-certified 460 horsepower, capable of pushing the vehicle from zero-to-96 kmph in 3.8 seconds. Even with the veritable torture test that the WardsAutos’ team put the engine through it was still able to record very impressive fuel-economy score of 11.76 L/100 km.
