Buick Concept Car
There has been a lot of interesting news coming from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit since its doors opened to the public on Monday. However, Buick took the initiative and broke its own news on the preceding Sunday by showing off the a new Buick concept car, the Buick Avenir. For the Francophiles among you, Avenir is “future” in French. As you can see from the photo above this is certainly a striking sedan with flowing lines. The Avenir looks almost like it was sculpted from a single block of material. It is important to note, concept vehicles are good discussion fodder and they almost never carry over exactly as seen to the production version.
According to a General Motors Canada press release, the Avenir Buick concept car is being designed and potentially positioned as a true flagship sedan for the Buick brand. Right now, the current Buick lineup available at Don Wheaton has many strong models, but picking which one is the leader would be up for debate. The long hood design with a steeply raked rear deck and wheels at the very corners of the body, harkens back to classic Buick designs like the since discontinued Buick Riviera.
“Simply put, Avenir is a beautiful piece of sculpture, delivered on a premium proportion that acknowledges the Buick design heritage in a very progressive way,” Michael Simcoe, vice president of design, GM International Operations said in a Buick Canada press release. “The vehicle remains unmistakably Buick with a modern take on the traditional Buick cues such as the sweep spear and boattail. The result is a piece of artistry that is precise in its character, beautifully proportioned. It really takes your breath away.”
Just because the Avenir is a new Buick concept car, doesn’t mean that the design department doesn’t break out the top-of-the-line accessories to really showcase the car’s potential. There is space for four passengers in the Buick Avenir concept car. However each seat is meant to maximize the potential comfort and luxury for each rider. The car is powered by a V-6 engine featuring modern fuel-saving systems like direct fuel-injection and engine start/stop. Of course this wouldn’t be a new Buick vehicle without a next-generation edition of the Buick IntelliLink infotainment system and the Buick 4G LTE wifi hotspot.
It will likely be a few years, if at all, before we see the production model of the Buick concept car, the Avenir. In the mean time if you would like to take a closer look at what you can actually take home from Don Wheaton, contact one of our sales professionals today.
