2016 Chevy Bolt coming to Canada
Chevrolet has truly shown its commitment to making the world a cleaner place by making some big announcements in two different countries at almost the same time. The 2016 Chevy Bolt Electric Vehicle was officially unveiled at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto a few days ago. At just about the same moment, at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet’s U.S. contingent was announcing that they are making a commitment to producing the newly announced Chevy electric hatchback. American audiences got a glimpse of the 2016 Bolt last month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
So what does this mean for customers of Don Wheaton? We have a vehicle being shown to Canadian audiences in Toronto and a separate, but related, announcement being made across the border in Chicago. Well, if you are interested in a new Chevy electric vehicle coming to Canada, you are in luck; because General Motors’ operations on both sides of the border plan to make the 2016 Chevy Bolt available to citizens of both countries as well as much of the world. Overall, the 2016 Bolt has all of the earmarks to be a major hit in the making for Chevrolet.
Chevy already has a couple of hybrid and electric vehicle options on the market. Of course, there is the much talked about Chevy Volt, which had its second generation debut in Toronto, and the Chevy Spark EV. The latter is arguably Chevy’s first attempt at an all-electrically powered vehicle. However, for whatever reason, it is only available in very few markets within the United States. The new 2016 Chevy Bolt will be coming to all markets within the U.S. and Canada when production starts at a GM facility outside of Detroit during the coming year.
As it stands right now, there are only a few details we know about the 2016 Chevy Bolt. First of all, it will be completely powered by electricity. There will be no gasoline-powered range extender as is found on the Volt. However, early estimates from Chevy state that the Bolt will be able to cover up to 300 kilometers on a single charge. The impressive range figure is likely from the fact that Chevy has had a breakthrough with battery technology that has increased storage capacity while having fewer battery cells packed in the vehicle. Not only does this new technology increase the amount of power that can be stored, it lessens the amount of weight being carried by the vehicle.
