Performance Data Recorder
Don Wheaton carries the full lineup of General Motors vehicles there are available. This includes the high-performance models like the Chevy Corvette Stingray and the ultra high-performance Corvette Z06. Last week at the Canadian International Auto Show, two new members of the GM high-performance family were introduced, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V and the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V. Right from the outset, all four of these vehicles are built to perform as excellently on the track as they would carving up the open road on the way to almost any destination. However, to a segment of Don Wheaton customers with gasoline in their veins, what good is all this performance if you can’t lord it over your competitors. Enter, the Performance Data Recorder.
We aren’t terribly clear on where the idea for including the Performance Data Recorder on the lineup of GM high-performance vehicles came from. We are just glad that is is happening. Originally, the Performance Data Recorder was originally intended for the Corvette Stingray and Corvette Z06. These two vehicles are built from the ground up to be ready to take to the racetrack, pretty much from the second they roll off of the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA. It is only with the announcement that the two new V-series Cadillacs will be arriving to dealers like Don Wheaton that we know the Performance Data Recorder is going to be available on the Cadillac models.
So, what is the Performance Data Recorder. Basically, it is an entire team of racing engineers that can be carried around on an SD card and downloaded to a laptop for later evaluation. The Performance Data Recorder that is available with the four high-performance vehicles uses the Cosworth Toolbox, the same software suite used by the professional Chevy racing team that uses the Corvette CR.7 on the professional supercar racing circuit. This tool can record a whole host of telemetry data including top/current speed, lateral g-Force, what gear you are in and engine rpm. That, however, is only the tip of the iceberg. In the right hands, the Performance Data Recorder can absolutely change the way you drive your equipped vehicle.
Also, considering that all four of the previously mentioned vehicles can be equipped with the new 4G LTE wifi hotspot, you will be able to share an impressive amount of information with the world without having to get out of the cockpit.
