Following last week’s unveiling ceremony, we learned a great deal about the results of the redesign for the new Camaro. In addition to shedding nearly 100 kilograms from the frame and body, the 2016 Camaro is going to be more fuel-efficient than ever. One of the new powertrains will be optimized to allow drivers fuel economy scores of almost eight L/100km while still being able to clock a zero-to-96 km/h time of fewer than six seconds. Also, we learned that the redesign of the 2016 Chevy Camaro is so complete that the only parts carried over from last year are the rear Chevy bowtie emblem and the historic SS badge.
Chevrolet is not being subtle about its excitement surround the new 2016 Chevy Camaro. In the press release detailing many of the changes to the new Camaro, they have come out and said that this is going to be, “not only the best Camaro ever, but one of the best performance cars available.”
In order to make sure that Chevy is true to its word, that the 2016 model is the best Camaro ever, engineers are offering three new engines. Giving potential customers of Don Wheaton a powerful sport-coupe with impressive fuel-efficiency is a 2016 Camaro powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that will make 275 horsepower and still achieve the aforementioned nearly eight L/100km. Another option lies in a new 3.5-liter, V-6 engine with an estimated power output of 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. This engine also features a number of fuel-saving technologies like direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing and active fuel management.
The real star of the 2016 Chevy Camaro and its variation is the much improved SS version. This engine will be outfitted with a new 6.2-liter, direct fuel injected small block V-8 and is rated to produce 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS will feature Magnetic Ride Control to aid drivers in keeping control of all of that available power. Also drivers will be able to customize their driving experience with several selectable driving modes.
