Chevy Smartphone Apps
As the worlds of automotive technology and smartphone sophistication continue to grow, two are bound to intersect at some point. That point is upon us with a new suite of Chevy smartphone apps for Android and iPhone that will be debuting with many 2016 Chevy models as they arrive to dealerships like Don Wheaton. We are still in the early phases of this rollout and the true reach of these Chevy smartphone apps has no logical ceiling, we are getting a glimpse of what the future may hold. Being able to connect an Android or iPhone to the Chevy MyLink system is nothing new. However, being able to access some of that functionality directly from the MyLink touchscreens is a new develop and it opens a new level of connectivity.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will offer applications that will permit access to stored music, navigation, SMS messaging, Skype and Siri. There is still a lot to learn about how these Chevy smartphone apps will interact with the Chevy MyLink system, but it would appear that which system is compatible will depend on the size of the touchscreen that is installed in the Chevy vehicle. At least in the early stages of the technology’s rollout phase. Vehicles with the seven-inch screen which includes the Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Camaro and Silverado will actually be able to use both the Apple and Android interfaces. Initially, the eight-inch screens only have access to the Apple CarPlay suite. Vehicles that come with the eight-inch monitor are the Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Camaro, Corvette, Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban.
Customers with Android phones will require Lollipop 5.0 to use the system as well as connect the phone to the Chevy MyLink system with a USB cord. Applet CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later. This news about further integration of Chevy smartphone apps comes on the heels of Chevy cementing themselves as an industry leader. Almost every 2015 Chevy model can be outfitted with a 4G LTE Wi-fi hotspot that can be used almost anywhere, included several meters outside of the vehicle.
