CUE will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
For the last several years, Cadillac vehicles have been at the forefront of automotive technology. Certainly this is true of the performance of vehicles like the V-series, but let’s not forget the Cadillac CUE system that consolidates many different functions like audio, media and navigation. However, the development of smartphone technology can’t be overlooked and its integration with infotainment systems like Cadillac CUE is the next automotive frontier. Just like we talked about with the Chevy MyLink system, CUE will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Apple functionality will lead the way with Android integration being phased in later in the 2016 Cadillac production line schedule.
Once both vehicles are able to accept both phone technologies, they will, in our estimate, behave much the same way, but will work to enhance what each phone does well. Apple iPhone users will have more integration with Siri through the combination of Cadillac Cue and Apple CarPlay. In addition to being able to activate Siri without touching the phone, by simply using voice commands, they will be able to make and receive phone calls as well as send and read texts and emails. This functionality naturally extend to any iTunes files that may be on your iPhone.
Android users are going to get a whole new vibe when the Android Auto system finally makes its way to the Cadillac CUE-equipped models. There is a Google program for just about every need in life. Android Auto is developed around Google Maps, Now as well as the ability to communicate with Google servers. This will allow for eventual access to new audio and messaging programs like WhatsApp, Skype, Google Play Music, Spotify and a host of podcast players.
Both systems will require that your iPhone or Android phone is connected to the CUE via a USB cord or the Apple equivalent. Also, to run Apple CarPlay, you have to have a phone running iOS 7.1 or better and Android users must be using Lollipop and up.
