2016 Chevy Camaro Convertible
If there is one thing about global car culture that is universal, its that there is nothing better than dropping a convertible’s top and turning the music up loud enough to hear it over the wind. Whether your tastes are more Ann Murray than Rush or even modern fare like Barenaked Ladies, is actually immaterial. It all about the experience. The 2016 Chevy Camaro Convertible is ready to provide that experience to a new generation of rag top owners. While the concept of convertible tops is nothing new, the way the top of the 2016 Camaro Convertible is very revolutionary.
First of all, the drop top for the new Camaro is one of the first in the industry that is completely automatic. The days of having to stand up and fight with arms that never quite folded right are over. Now with the push of a button on the Camaro’s dashboard or from the key fob, owners can raise and lower the top at will; up to speeds of 48 km/h. The entire top is stored under a hard top tonneu cover, that is also mechanically synchronized with the rest of the system.
“The 2016 Camaro coupe will set the benchmark for the segment in terms of technology, performance, and design,” Shane Peever, Chevrolet brand manager for Canada said. “Adding the most sophisticated top in the segment brings another level of refinement, and driving enjoyment, to the Camaro convertible.”
From the very beginning the 2016 Camaro was built to shed to weight to be more responsive. Adding a convertible top system to the vehicle would complicate things. However, Chevy engineers were able to take the same principles that helped shed weight from the vehicle overall, to the structure of the Camaro’s convertible top. Even with this lightened structure, the new fabric top holds the intended lines better and keeps out more road noise than previous version.
