Denali version of the 2017 Canyon
The GMC Canyon is already impressing the automotive world, even at this early point in the new model-year. The 2016 Canyon was one of the finalists for the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award, eventually being bested by its cousin, the 2016 Chevy Colorado. While even being mentioned in the same breath as such an impressive pickup truck is an honor, that isn’t quite enough for GMC engineers and designers. They are already looking ahead to next year and have completed a preliminary plan to improve the premium midsize pickup truck market. GMC has announced plans for a Denali version of the 2017 Canyon. I was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show and should start arriving to dealers in about a year.
The 2017 GMC Canyon Denali will have all of the usual Denali features, including the distinguished chrome grille, 20-inch ultra-bright aluminum wheels with painted accents. Other exterior cues will be chrome fog lamp bezels, chrome assist steps a polished exhaust tip and a spray-in bed liner. Additionally, customers of Don Wheaton will have six colors to choose from with the new Canyon Denali.
“Canyon is the segment’s first and only premium midsize truck, offering unparalleled capability and efficiency matched with maneuverability and refinement,” Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing said in GMC press release. “The all-new Canyon Denali builds on that award-winning combination with the distinctive styling, luxurious interior and elevated content that has defined the Denali nameplate since its introduction nearly 17 years ago.”
Designers are also offering a premium interior with the 2017 Canyon Denali. The standard look will features a Jet Black interior with leather-appointed seats that are also heated and ventilated for maximum comfort. These interior materials will be exclusive to the Canyon Denali along with a specially designed instrument panel and Denali logos on the sill plates and floor mats.
Remaining unchanged will be the engine options for the 2016 Canyon Denali. The standard engine option will be the 3.6-liter, V-6 and its ability to tow more than 3,000 kilograms. Peak fuel-consumption scores will be about 9.1 L/100 km for the base engine. The turbocharged Duramax Diesel engine is also available for the 2017 Canyon Denali.
