Custom Cruise Friday
Chevrolet introduced its High Country trim for the Chevy Silverado a few years ago as a way for loyal Chevy buyers to have premium pickup that would be on par with what is offered by GMC. This week’s Custom Cruise Friday pickup truck is a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with the High Country package and sports a double cab. Owner Josh Bent purchased the truck from Don Wheaton Fleet Manager Brandie Martin in July 2015. When Bent first saw the pickup at Don Wheaton, it had already been upgraded with a few customer features, even though the High Country trim package includes one of the more impressive lists of standard features.
Bent mainly uses the truck for work at a construction company. Since taking it home, Bent added Bushwacker fender flares to add a little cover for the 37×13 Toyo M/T Open Country tires wrapped around chrome Fuel brand wheels. Before Bent took the truck home, the Don Wheaton Fleet Department had already added a 10-inch lift kit, custom white-painted grille and special black-out versions of the Chevy bowtie.
“(The truck) does stand out,” Bent said. “Quite a few people stop and ask about it.”
As a heavy duty version of the Chevy Silverado, Bent’s pickup is powered by a 6.6-liter, Duramax turbodiesel engine with the ability make nearly 400 horsepower. Sending that power to the wheels is an equally capable Allison transmission.
Among the highlights of the High Country package for the Silverado are saddle-colored interior materials made of perforated premium leather, heated and cooled bucket seats for the driver and front passenger with embroidered High Country logos on the head restraints.
Bent doesn’t appear to have any major plans for upgrades to the truck. He seems to be content driving it to and using it for work purposes and adding to the 9,000 kilometers he’s already accumulated.
“For now I’m pleased with it,” Bent said. “I normally don’t keep them very long, only three or four years.”
