Custom Cruise Friday
Anyone that has been reading Custom Cruise Friday posts this winter may have noticed a trend. Customized pickup trucks tend to skew toward large, lifted models that seem to be short step from being full-on monsters crushing cars on a Sunday afternoon. This week’s featured truck bucks that super-sized trend. Don Wheaton sales professional, Alex Gull volunteered his modified 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. The regular cab, short box pickup truck essentially serves as his winter vehicle. However, he has put in the time and investment to upgrade the pickup to suit his style and add a little more flare to a time of year where people may need a little pick-me-up.
Gull purchased the 2013 Sierra about 18 months ago so he wouldn’t have to expose his other vehicles to harsh conditions and salty environment that is a byproduct of an Edmonton, Alberta winter. When he took the truck home, it was a pretty basic model. During the time Gull has owned the truck, he has added a number of accent and other elements to raise the overall aesthetic of the truck.
The original grille has been replaced with a GMC Denali version. Also, he changed the wheels to 20-inch rims that would also normally be at home on a Sierra Denali pickup. Nobody likes to get into a cold vehicle in the morning. Gull was also quick to add a remote starter. Other upgrades include a spray-in bed liner and chrome exhaust. The running boards were on the truck when he purchased it, but since they fit with the overall look of the truck, Gull chose to keep them.
Save for some higher quality floor mats, the interior of the 2013 Sierra has remained untouched. The four-wheel drive truck uses the 4.3-liter, V-6 as a power plant. Gull has a few future plans to keep customizing the pickup, including lowering the rear to give the truck more balance.
“I think it looks good,” Gull said. “Hopefully, I can keep up the modding.”
