Cadillac XT5 vs. Cadillac SRX
Cadillac buyers looking at the current inventory at Don Wheaton will be in for a treat. The all-new 2017 Cadillac XT5 will begin being built in a number of GM facilities this spring, which means it will arrive to the Don Wheaton showroom in late fall or possibly early winter. Once the 2017 XT5 arrives to the dealership, it will be the third Cadillac SUV available to Don Wheaton buyers. Obviously, the Cadillac Escalade will reign as the largest, and now arguably, most luxurious Cadillac SUV. This will leave people wondering what is the difference between the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac SRX.
“The XT5 has a great stance, with wheels further to the corners and overhangs reduced,” Andrew Smith, Cadillac executive director of global design said in a press release. “Our team continues to evolve the design language of Cadillac.”
The first thing to know about the difference between the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac SRX is that the XT5 is a brand new vehicle. Its design and construction uses lessons learned from the development of other General Motors’ vehicles that have debuted in 2016. Cadillac engineers have built the all-new 2017 XT5 to be larger than the current SRX but also lighter, making it more responsive. Overall, the new XT5 will be 126 kilograms lighter than the SRX and offer an additional eight centimeters for legroom for rear seat passengers.
Another common trait that binds all Cadillac vehicles together is the world-class quality of the interior. For the 2017 Cadillac XT5, designers took a number of cues from the upcoming Cadillac CT6 sedan. Details are still a little sparse, however, given what has been released about the new XT5, we know that it will have a very original interior design. The goal was to make sure the all of the available space in the passenger cabin was efficiently used and still has all of the aesthetic qualities which set Cadillac vehicles apart from the competition.
There is also a slight performance difference between the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac SRX. The new XT5 will have the new 3.6-liter, V-6 engine under the hood. This engine has been used with new Cadillac vehicles like the ATS, CTS and upcoming CT6. Eventual owners of the 2017 XT5 will get slightly more horsepower out of their power plant and might see a drop in fuel-consumption scores thanks to the new Active Fuel Management and Stop/Start engine technologies. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard equipment for the XT5.
Cadillac buyers will still certainly be able to get plenty of performance and luxury from the existing SRX. However, the all-new 2017 Cadillac XT5, as well as the other new Cadillac vehicles that are coming, represent the next step in the automaker’s evolution.
