New Buick sedan honors past models
With only a few hours remaining, it’s pretty safe to say that the Buick Avenir concept at the Edmonton Motor Show has captured the crowd’s attention. People seem to be impressed by the sweeping lines of the potential new Buick sedan. The automaker’s designers have done an excellent job combining regal Buick heritage with modern design concepts with the Avenir — which means future in French — concept vehicle. It remains unclear if the Avenir as it was seen in Edmonton will head into production. But if that is the case, the future flagship sedan of the Buick brand will be the Avenir sedan.

What could be seen on day two[/wrc_column]
Origins of the Avenir
It’s pretty clear that the sculptors in the Buick model shop were put to the test during the initial development stages of the new Avenir concept. The new Buick concept sedan uses expressive proportions and gladly incorporates the signature sweep-speer body style. From the dimensions of the hood, the way the wheels stand at the extreme corners of the vehicle’s frame and its sloping rear deck are all elements built into the Buick Avenir concept at the Edmonton Motor Show which pay direct homage to the heavy hitters throughout Buick history including the famed Riviera sedan.
One of the many interesting design choices that Buick made for the Avenir concept sedan is the personal seating for four passengers. Having five seats is pretty standard for a full-size sedan, such as the Avenir would represent. However, each of these four seats offer the potential to offer passengers a very personal experience while riding in the car. The interior surfaces are described by Buick as being ‘inspired by nature and sea waves receding on a beach.
Setting the mood
This is very much on display in the rear seat. Both passengers in the back seats will have their own video screen to use as they wish. Designers also worked to create an environment inside of the car that conveyed a very specific vibe. The color palette blends light and natural tones with the special wood trim to give everyone in the car a very special feeling, which would also be unique to the individual.
From a technology stand point, the Buick Avenir concept at the Edmonton Motor Show is poised to be an industry leader from the minute it begins full scale production. The basic spec sheet says that will be able to host everything that Buick already offers in its premium vehicle lineup. However, there will be room to expand the car’s capabilities with future innovations.
Despite the popularity of the Buick Avenir concept at the Edmonton Motor Show, there is no real time table as to when or if it will be made or if it will be available in Canada. Be sure to follow along with the Don Wheaton Blog for more updates in the future.
