Racing DNA permeates 2017 Corvette model
The next great model in the Corvette family is poised to arrive to the Don Wheaton later this summer. Chevy didn’t get too far outside the lines and is keeping the C7 Stingray platform for the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. However, it will be getting a bit of a makeover behind the scenes in terms of performance parts. Even a base model Corvette is capable of some pretty impressive performance scores. So how fast is a 2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport? It is still pretty early in the life cycle of the vehicle for hard numbers to be released. Although, Chevy has published some preliminary results from testing.
Getting off of the line
Again, Chevy already had one of the highest performing cars in its stable with the latest version of the Corvette Z06. For best results, Don Wheaton buyers will want to make sure they order the new Corvette Grand Sport with the available Z07 performance package. With these special components installed, test versions of the latest Corvette Grand Sport were able to accelerate from zero-to-60 mph in fewer than four seconds, 3.6 seconds to be exact. That requires every pound-foot of torque the LT1 V-8 engine can make. At the top end of the power band, General Motors test drivers were able to achieve nearly 120 miles per hour in the quarter-mile, completing the run in fewer than 12 seconds (11.8 seconds to be exact.)
“The racing DNA of the original Grand Sport race cars is in the 2017 model, adding greater dimensions of capability and driver involvement to the Corvette’s award-winning architecture, for a purer driving experience,” Harlan Charles, Corvette product marketing manager said in a press release. “It is a worthy successor to the spirit of the originals.”
What tires come with the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport?
[wrc_column grid=”2″ width=”1″ type=”start”]Because of the advanced lightweight architecture of the 2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport, a set of off-brand skins wouldn’t do the high-performance nature of the car any favors. Chevy engineers have opted for Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to wrap around the 19×10 front wheels and 20×12 rear wheels. Potential owners opting for the Z07 performance gear will see an upgraded set of tires Michelin Pilot Super Sport 2 tires. The upgrade has the potential to offer up 1.2g of cornering ability.[/wrc_column][wrc_column grid=”2″ width=”1″ type=”end”]
