Upgraded cargo options available for Silverado
In addition to building one of the most respected and sought after lineups of pickup trucks, Chevrolet can also hang its hat on the knowledge they offer truck buyers more customization options than any other automaker. Most of the accessory packages available for the Chevy Silverado and its GMC Sierra cousin are available for the choosing in the Don Wheaton Fleet Department. Brandi Martin and her team are always willing to talk trucks and accessories with whomever may be near by. Chevy has added a new horse to the stable with the Silverado High Desert package. Like the other options, the High Desert option brings some extra refinement to the pickup as well as some new utility options.

How do I get a Silverado High Desert?
Don Wheaton customers interested in ordering the Chevy Silverado High Desert package will need to start with the truck featuring the LT, LTZ or High Country trim levels. There are a few exterior changes made to the Silverado High Desert to give it a little more refinement, befitting a pickup truck of this quality. Buyers who opt for the top-of-the line High Country base for the new accessory package will also be able to add the cutting edge Magnetic Ride Control suspension system.
Primarily found on General Motors’ various high-performance cars, the new suspension feature will smooth out the roughest of driving surfaces by adjusting settings faster than 1,000 times per second.
“The High Desert package blends the capability and utility of Silverado with the refinement and luxury of Suburban,” Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing said in a press release. “It’s ideal for those customers who want both the security of a lockable cargo area, as well as the flexibility of a pickup truck bed.”
New storage options for the Silverado High Desert
Offering an open cargo bed provides truck owners with a platform for hauling that is nearly unmatched by any other type of vehicle. Unfortunately, this can leave items in the bed vulnerable to weather and more nefarious elements. Potential future owners of the Silverado High Desert will be presented with a number of new cargo storage options. Among the new ways to store valuable tools or gear include dual side storage bins and a cargo divider which can be raised to separate the space into smaller units.
Best of all the whole bed can be covered by a securable tonneau cover. The security of the new cargo system is bolstered by the Silverado’s fairly standard lockable tailgate which can be operated with a key fob.
What does the High Desert have under the hood?
As of right now, Chevy has only announced that the EcoTec3 6.2-liter, V-8 engine will power the LTZ and High Country models. The 420-horsepower power plant will be attached to the new 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined with a leading 460 pound-foot torque rating, this version of the Silverado will have the most powerful engine in a light-duty pickup truck.
