New Camaro coming to NASCAR in 2017
The up and coming stars of NASCAR who use Chevy equipment in the XFINITY Series will be getting an upgrade from the automaker for the 2017 Season. Starting next year, Chevy will be phasing out the Generation Five Camaro SS in favor of the all-new Camaro SS Generation Six body style that has been very popular with dealerships like Don Wheaton. Chevy is updating its equipment offered to racing teams for a couple of reasons. First, the to offer its racing partners the best possible equipment and technology available; and second to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Chevy Camaro.
“For the past 50 years, Camaro has played a key role in Chevrolet’s racing success in winning races and championships,” said Mark Kent, director, Chevrolet Racing. “We look forward to further success with the new Camaro SS in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.”
Changes made for the new Camaro racecar
Keeping a high-powered vehicle stable and safe while traveling at nearly 200 miles per hour for several hundred miles takes a bit of doing. In providing the new Generation-Six Camaro SS to XFINITY drivers, Chevy engineers used every trick in the book. High-powered computer analysis combined with traditional wind-tunnel testing led to the unique shape of the racing version 2016 Camaro SS.
There is no doubt that the close relationship between professional stock car racing and automakers has made a huge difference for the average driver in terms of handling, performance and, of course, safety.
2017 Camaro upgrades in Edmonton, AB
Right about the time the Chevy XFINITY teams are putting their new Camaro racecars on the track, the first of the 2017 Chevy Camaro models will be available in the Don Wheaton showroom. As great as the 2016 Camaro has been, the Generation Six car will really hit its stride in 2017. Leading the way will be the new 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1.
If there was a production version of the Camaro that was going to be able to compete with the racecar version, it would be this one. The new Camaro ZL1 separates itself from the rest of the production models by offering a supercharged, V-8 engine with 640 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
