2016 Chevy Corvette Z06 vs. 2017 Ford GT
General Motors and Ford have had a long standing rivalry. A byproduct of this fierce competition is two of the best lineups of cars available to customers. In recent years, the two manufacturers have used valuable resources and research dollars entering the super car market. General Motors has already put the Chevy Corvette Z06 in dealerships like Don Wheaton and Ford is still working on its Ford GT super car. However, it’s important to point out that the Ford GT is likely to be pretty rare in comparison to the Z06. Here are three reasons why you should choose the Corvette Z06 over the 2017 Ford GT.
Ford GT sticker shock
Looking at the marketing materials for the Ford GT, there is quite a bit for high-performance car fans to love. The upcoming 2017 Ford GT is sleek and light with its very liberal use of carbon fiber materials. All of this adds up to a very, very expensive car. Some will say it can’t be known how much the Ford GT will cost because there is no price listed. From our point of view, that is all the evidence a person needs. The old adage comes to mind, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.”
By comparison, the current Chevy Corvette Z06 uses more than its share of carbon fiber technology to deliver a first rate handling profile and performance, but does so at a price point that is relatively attainable. Even with a price tag just north of $100,000 dollars for the Corvette Z06, the Ford GT is likely to demand two or three times that much.
Performance differences Corvette Z06 vs. Ford GT
Ford makes a big deal about the 2017 GT having the most powerful turbocharged (they call it EcoBoost) V-6 engine they offer. Actually, the Ford GT will features a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter, V-6 engine with the ability to produce more than 600 horsepower. There is little chance this car won’t sound like a jet-powered vacuum cleaner with a loonie stuck in the brushes. Acoustic qualities aside, this car will be fast. But will the Ford GT be faster than the Corvette Z06? It’s hard to say, we don’t think so.
Drivers that choose the Chevy Corvette Z06 will get supercharged V-8 engine making 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The current Chevy Corvette Z06, available at Don Wheaton, has been clocked by independent sources going from zero-to-96 km/h in fewer than four seconds. It’s hard to imagine a turbocharged engine would be able to outperform a supercharged motor.
Corvette Z06 offers more practicality
It’s a strange situation where someone can tout the practicality of the Chevy Corvette Z06. But this is a very important point to make when taking on the 2017 Ford GT. The same group that evaluated the performance of the Chevy Corvette Z06 have praised the super car for being comfortable to drive. Chevy engineers have made the interior of the Corvette Z06 as comfortable for daily commuting as it is supportive for aggressive driving.
Furthermore, the current Z06 comes with selectable driving modes to allow the person behind the wheel to have the exact experience they would like. The Ford GT is likely going to come set up for the race track which won’t be very forgiving in any way.
