Performance specs of the 2017 Camaro
Even the most causal reader of the Don Wheaton Blog should know how excited we are about the arrival of the 2017 Chevy Camaro and all of the high-performance versions that will be following it. To put things in perspective, the introductory year (2016) of the Generation Six Camaro was basically released as a proof of concept. The automaker wanted to see how customers were going to react to a lighter, more efficient and nimble Camaro platform. With a positive result in hand, Chevy was quick to announce they will be reintroducing the ZL1 and 1LE to bring top-end performance back to the Camaro family. General Motors have recently released some performance scores for the 2017 Camaro, buyers looking to see how fast the new model will be are in for quite a treat.
How fast is the 2017 Camaro ZL1?
Just about every component, nut and bolt in the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 is designed and in place to promote incredible performance. This includes standard issue Recaro-style front seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Additionally, Chevy designers have built a new hood to cover the front end of the new Camaro. The carbon-fiber insert and heat extractor have been included to aid in keeping the engine as cool as possible by directing moving air through the engine compartment in the most functional way possible.
Under that hood is the famed supercharged, 6.2-liter, LT4 small block V-8 engine. While it’s the same basic setup that comes with the Covette Z06, Chevy has revised the intake and exhaust plumbing for the version of the engine that’s in the Camaro ZL1 which has reported yielded an additional 10 horsepower.
“The Camaro ZL1 offers supercar performance with daily-driver refinement, a combination that stacks up against any other sports coupe – at any price – around the world,” Steve Majoros, director, Chevrolet marketing in a press release.

How fast is the 2017 Camaro 1LE?
In 50 years of Camaro production, 2017 marks the first time General Motors and Chevrolet is offering the 1LE track-ready package on version of the car with a V-6 engine. There has always been something more than a little democratic about the Camaro being such a high-performing platform offered in a range of available setups to meet as many budgets as possible as it does split lap times. Once the 2017 Chevy Camaro 1LE arrives to the Don Wheaton showroom, it will share the same basic underpinnings as the ZL1 but will be outfitted slightly differently.
The 2017 Chevy Camaro 1LE will be attached to certain trims with the 3.6-liter, V-6 making more than 335 horsepower. Owners will be in possession of one of the most track-capable cars in its class. Additionally, the 2017 Camaro 1LE will share suspension equipment from the current Camaro SS and still retains its outstanding front-to-rear weight balance for precision steering.
“Building on Chevrolet’s well-established recipe for track-focused performance, the new 1LE packages expand the performance envelope of the Camaro SS and, for the first time, the Camaro LT,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “You’ll be hard-pressed to find more track-capable cars in their respective classes for the money.”
