2017 Cadillac XT5 Top Safety Pick +
Still in its first year of production, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 has already revolutionized the luxury crossover SUV segment of the automotive industry. It has replaced the very popular Cadillac SRX and offers more cargo space, more performance and more advanced in-vehicle technology. Now, the new Cadillac XT5 has picked up one of the most coveted labels around, Top Safety Pick + by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In order for the latest and greatest addition to the luxury crossover SUV class to meet this high standard, the 2017 XT5 had to put up perfect scores in a number of crash tests as well as offers active safety features to work to prevent accidents as much as is possible.
“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer said in a press release. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness. This included a revised front structure that specifically targets the challenging offset barrier scenario.”
What makes the 2017 XT5 so safe?
The ability to offer world-class crash safety was a key theme in the design process of the 2017 Cadillac XT5. Even before the first vehicle rolled off the assembly time, Cadillac engineers used state of the art computer simulations to destroy the XT5 prototype over and over until it met their exacting standards. Without getting too deep into dense engineering jargon, the front end of the XT5 was built to essentially direct the force of an offset crash impact away from the passenger cabin. Many vehicles that fail to achieve Top Safety Pick + status are washed out because of performance in offset crash testing.
Additionally, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 has a passenger cabin filled with seven airbags. Drivers and passengers alike can find extra piece of mind with the on board OnStar capability for Automatic Crash Response. Cadillac has also made Driver Awareness and Driver Assist packages available to try to prevent crashes from happening.
