What is OnStar Smart Driver?
Today’s vehicles built by General Motors are better performing and more efficient than ever before. Leaps in technology have allowed for a number of different innovations. What remains the same is that, as drivers, we all have the tendency to pickup bad habits throughout our lives. OnStar, the same company that has been helping GM vehicle owners stay safer and be more connected for many years is now offering the new Smart Driver feature to help monitor how a particular vehicle is operated. Scores from the OnStar Smart Driver program can be broken down by day, week, month, year and lifetime. Having a decent Smart Driver score could lead to lower car insurance rates.
NOTE: Be sure to speak with your insurance provider to see if your company allows for this.
What does OnStar Smart Driver track?
The way a driver operates his or her motor vehicle is very telling. Lots of hard acceleration or braking could mean someone is being a little too aggressive behind the wheel and is at risk for being in an accident. The OnStar Smart Driver system tracks those kinds of events including what percentage of the time behind the wheel is spent driving at high speeds, how much driving is done late at night as well as total miles driven. All of this data is compiled and compared to other driver. Furthermore, the system can even provide tips to help drivers learn better behavior behind the wheel.
