Trailer Camera System for Chevy and GMC trucks
The GMC Sierra HD family of pickup trucks has been purpose built for towing some of the heaviest loads that can be found. GMC* has provided owners with all of the tools they need to get the hardest jobs done as efficiently as possible. This includes a new Duramax diesel engine making more than 440 horsepower and better than 900 pound-feet of torque, as well as easily overlooked features like an integrated trailer brake and the option to have a fifth-wheel towing rig. For the current model year as well as those going forward, the automaker has partnered with aftermarket vehicle accessory company, EchoMaster, to develop the Trailer Camera System.
“GMC’s reputation was forged on the ability to perform heavy work with a premium touch, and these new options do more to make that work comfortable and confident,” Sierra Marketing Manager Stuart Pierce said. “With a 112-year legacy of professional grade trucks behind them, the entire Sierra lineup handles the toughest tasks with the utmost ease.”
What is the Trailer Camera System?
The EchoMaster Trailer Camera System is a dealer-added accessory meant to improve a driver’s field of view by adding rear-facing cameras in a few strategically important places. If a Don Wheaton customer would like this new system added to their truck, a Fleet Department technician will seamlessly add the cameras to the bottom of the side-view mirrors as well as to the trailer. All three camera feeds can be viewed individually or simultaneously on the truck’s touchscreen; just like the factory-installed camera.
How is this better than the existing camera on the GMC Sierra HD?
The most important distinction between the Trailer Camera System and the existing factory-installed component is that drivers will be getting a better view of what’s around them. When a trailer is attached to the truck, the existing rear facing camera can be easily compromised by being obstructed by the trailer. By adding the aftermarket Trailer Camera System, new points of view make for safer and easier handling of the trailer when the driver needs to go in reverse.
