Top five reasons for having OnStar
One of the most amazing developments in recent memory has been the advent and implementation of telematics; specifically, the OnStar system that has been equipped on General Motors vehicles for more than a decade. Since OnStar first showed, its capabilities have rapidly expanded beyond simply finding help with navigation or reminding people they need to buckle their seatbelts. Today, OnStar offers an immersive environment that allows owners to be in total control of their vehicle — even when they’re not in it. Don Wheaton has taken a look at some of what the current OnStar systems offer. Here are a few reasons why you should be using OnStar.

What does OnStar offer?
If you’ve been interested in a Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, but curious about what having the OnStar system would do for you, Don Wheaton’s automotive expert Kyle Galliver walks you through it in the video above. But if you’re looking for a faster rundown, we have you covered there as well.
Why should I use OnStar?
In the early days, an OnStar operator was always traveling with you and was just the push-of-a-button away from giving you the help you need. This is still the case, but now that help can follow you around everywhere thanks to a series of apps developed for many of the brands under the General Motors umbrella. For instance, maps and driving directions that you look up on your phone can be sent directly to your vehicle’s navigation system.
Nobody likes having an unexpected break down happen when they’re on the road. Not only will the system keep track of the overall health of your vehicle, but from the app, an owner can directly email an authorized service center, like the Don Wheaton Service Department, to set up an appointment.
A nightmare scenario for just about every vehicle owner is having their car, truck or SUV stolen. OnStar can help in several ways. First, a trained operator will direct law enforcement toward the stolen car and can even remotely disable it – when safe – so the police can apprehend the thieves.
This is just barely scratching the surface of everything OnStar offers its users. Be sure to watch the video for more details and some live demonstrations. If you’d like to see it in action for yourself, stop by the showroom today and ask any dealership representative.
