Can I buy an electrically-powered Corvette?
If you were to create a word cloud about the Chevrolet Corvette, the largest word on display would almost certainly be ‘performance.’ Modern Corvette models can be outfitted with some of the most powerful V-8 engines that General Motors have ever built. But can one buy an electrically-powered Corvette? It appears the answer is, yes. A U.S.-based company called, Genovation, is retrofitting a Corvette with a powerful electric motor that will change the way people view what’s possible in the emerging world of electric vehicles.

According to a recent post by automotive blog, Jalopnik, Genovation is taking a 2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport apart, piece by piece and making it one of the most impressive electric vehicle that has ever been produced. The electrically-powered Corvette will appear for the first time at the annual Consumer Electronics Show next month.
Is this a hybrid version of the Corvette?
The Jalopnik article doesn’t go into a lot of detail about how this electric Corvette prototype works. It does say that the car features a twin electric motor powertrain which is reported to produce as much as 800 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. All of this performance seems to translate into a zero-to-60 mph time that falls inside the three-second mark and a top speed breaking 220 mph. This would put it in the same league as a fully-loaded Tesla Model S.
Certainly, all of this performance is going to take a toll on how far the car can travel between charges. Available information says the car will have an electric range of about 130 miles.
How much will it cost?
This highly exotic electric Corvette isn’t likely going to be in wide-scale production, so the price tag is going to have a lot of places to the left of the decimal point. Jalopnik says Genovation is going to be asking customers for $750,000 USD to take one (and only?) home.
There is almost zero chance the electric Corvette will be on sale at Don Wheaton. However, if you’d like to take a look at the 2018 model, let our product experts know and we’ll let you know when it arrives in the showroom.
