Is Chevy making a new commercial Silverado?
A few weeks ago, we teased some news about Chevy unveiling the all-new 2019 Silverado at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. And while that is very exciting, it does leave a certain segment of heavy-duty truck buyers wondering when they’ll finally have something to look forward to. Thanks to an announcement from the automaker today, they don’t have to wonder any longer. Chevy is making a new commercial Silverado, and it will follow the current truck’s naming conventions for Class 4 and Class 5 chassis cab trucks. These are more than just trucks with a beefier frame, the new classes of Silverado are built with commercial owners in mind.

“The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy and more,” Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, General Motors Fleet said in a press release.
When will the Silverado 4500HD/5500HD be available in Canada?
Unlike the new standard versions of the Chevy Silverado, the new commercial version won’t be revealed until later this year. Chevy will be taking center stage at The Work Truck Show® this March, taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is the largest commercial truck expo in North America. According to the preliminary news release from General Motors, the new 4500HD/5500HD versions of the Silverado will start production toward the end of 2018.
The automaker hasn’t released much if any, useful information about the newest members of the Silverado family. To this point, all they have said is that the new Silverado 4500HD/5500HD models will come in regular and crew cab models, offer two- and four-wheel-drive versions and will be powered with Duramax engines using Allison transmissions. Additionally, the new commercial-grade Silverado will be one of the few fleet trucks on the market with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
