Is the Cadillac CTS being canceled?
As we stated in a previous Don Wheaton Blog post, the Chicago Auto Show is one of the most important dates on the global automotive calendar. Automakers from across the spectrum make presentations about their newest products that will be coming to market soon. Other news and updates take a bit more sleuthing to bring to the surface. The same foreign correspondent we had sending back photos and videos of new Chevy vehicles also took the time to make some inquiries with the experts staffing the Cadillac display. The answer they got to the question, ‘Is the Cadillac CTS being canceled’ was kind of surprising. This is what we’ve learned.
New name, new design, same quality
In another Don Wheaton Blog post, we brought you an update about the potential performance specs that could be appearing in the upcoming Cadillac CT5. The shocking update which came from the Chicago Auto Show revealed that the Cadillac CTS is being canceled in name only. When the new CT5 sedan finally arrives at dealerships like Don Wheaton, it will replace the CTS. The product expert at the exposition couldn’t elaborate very much, but there was a lot to learn from the answers they were able to give.
The Cadillac product expert alluded to the new Cadillac CT5 will be based on the same platform as the current CTS sedan. Customers will also be getting the next generation of exterior design cues with the CT5. As we previously surmised, several elements that appeared on the Cadillac Escala will be put into production with the Cadillac CT5. During the brief interview, the Cadillac expert mentioned that the instantly recognizable grille used on the Escala will be used by the new CT5.
Other automotive news outlets have said that Cadillac will continue to make the CT5 offer the same or similar levels of performance that have been made famous by the CTS and its super sedan variant the CTS-V. There was any information available about what kind of technology or features will be available with the CT5, but it will be on par with or, more likely, more advanced than what is offered with the Cadillac CTS.
