When a job calls for a seemingly impossible amount of capability, truck owners turn to the GMC Sierra 2500HD. Thanks to the addition of a new turbodiesel engine, heavy duty GMC pickup trucks no offer better scores for conventional and fifth-wheel towing than the highly respected Ford F-250. This upgrade in performance and continuation of additional technology adds a new component to the competition between the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 vs. 2017 Ford F-250. As has been the case in year’s past, Don Wheaton customers have the opportunity to get their GMC heavy duty trucks customized by our in-house technicians in the Don Wheaton Fleet Services Department.
The biggest news around the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 is the addition of the brand new turbocharged, 6.6-liter, V-8 Duramax diesel engine. GMC is revolutionizing the heavy duty pickup truck class with this new power plant. Not only will drivers have an amazing 445 horsepower to use but also an incredible 910 pound-feet of torque to play with. The 2017 Ford F-250 offers a turbocharged 6.7-liter, V-8 diesel engine of its own. Some GMC critics will be quick to point out that the Ford truck’s engine make more torque. However, that advantage is quickly eliminated by the fact GMC heavy-duty trucks with the new engine have a conventional towing capacity of 20,000 pounds. That number gets bumped up more than another ton and a half to 23,300 when a fifth-wheel rig is added to the truck.
