At the heart of the all-new Silverado 1500 ZR2 is an awesome 6.2-litre V-8 engine that puts a massive 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque at this mighty new truck’s disposal. All that power is sent exclusively to all four wheels of the ZR2 through a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the four-wheel-drive system features a two-speed transfer case and electronic-locking front and rear differentials. This is a half-ton truck that takes its adventurer credentials very seriously indeed.
When equipped with a conventional trailer hitch, the all-new ZR2 version of the 2022 Silverado 1500 is rated to tow up to 8,900 pounds (4,037kg), and it can handle a maximum payload of up to 1,440 pounds (653kg), but that’s not where this truck’s real strengths really lie.

Other practical off-road enhancements include the Silverado’s first application of Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers; new steel front and rear bumpers designed for off-road strength, durability, and clearance; unique skid plates to protect the ZR2 whether desert running or rock crawling; hidden dual-outlet exhausts for a better departure angle; and an enhanced 2-speed transfer case with Terrain Mode.
There’s no getting away from the rough, tough, and rugged exterior of the 2022 Silverado 1500 ZR2 and its razor-sharp focus on off-road styling and capability, but the interior is anything but hardcore in any way. Once you’re inside the truck you’ll marvel at the luxury of the leather-trimmed seats, sporty dark trim, and the amount of space there is courtesy of the expansive crew-cab body style.
The interior is at least as technologically advanced as the exterior with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel on the dash that sits next to a massive 13.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system that boasts wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
