The 2022 GMC Terrain has been refreshed for the new model year, so it looks even more striking and upscale when you see it on the roads in and around Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, and Leduc. As well as restyled front and rear styling, the 2022 GMC Terrain is now available with an impressive list of standard and available equipment and technology that further enhances this compact crossover’s premium credentials.
There are four different trim levels to choose from in the 2022 GMC Terrain lineup, and all of them, apart from the fleet-focused base model, come with all-wheel-drive as part of their standard specification. The entry-level model is the SLE, the only front-drive version of the Terrain, but even this model is available with AWD if you wish to add it. However, it’s the other three versions of the Terrain you’ll come across on lots and in showrooms which are the SLT, AT4, and the top-of-the-range Terrain Denali.
On the outside, the refreshed GMC Denali now has a distinct aura of contemporary ruggedness about it. The prominent grille and C-shaped headlights that are now synonymous with GMC trucks are decidedly modern, but the overall silhouette is that of a rugged crossover that’s not going to put up with any nonsense. As you go up the trim levels, the Terrain gets increasingly glitzy, and of course, the Denali is a festival of chrome and opulence.
For 2022, all versions of the Terrain get the same powerplant under the hood, which is a 1.5-litre turbo-four that produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels through a standard nine-speed automatic transmission or only the front wheels with the most basic version. The AWD system is a relatively simple affair that defaults to front-wheel-drive, so the driver must choose to activate the system when extra traction and capability are required.
A good suspension setup and quick, responsive steering help to deliver a smooth, comfortable, and composed ride for everyone inside the 2022 Terrain, and those of you who love the look of the more prominent 19-inch wheels will be pleased to learn that they don’t have any detrimental effect on the way this compact SUV feels and rides. The fuel economy is very respectable, too, with AWD versions returning 9.6 L/100 km in the city and 8.3 L/100 km on the highway, while that rare front-drive version can get you 9.2 L/100 km in the city and 7.8 L/100 km on the highway.
Every version of the 2022 GMC Terrain gets a very generous level of standard equipment. Those who consider infotainment systems to be of paramount importance will be delighted to know that the system here is one of the best in the business. The system is based around an 8.0-inch touchscreen used to control the Bluetooth audio streaming and phone connectivity and the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Denali has become something of a byword for luxury and high levels of advanced features. The Terrain Denali doesn’t disappoint with standard features that include the likes of adaptive cruise control, 7-speaker premium Bose sound system, HD Surround Vision, heated and ventilated front seats, GMC Connected Navigation, heated steering wheels, and even a head-up display.
The 2022 GMC Terrain is a premium compact crossover SUV that’s got its priorities just right. It has all the capability it needs for the kind of applications it is designed to fulfill, and it performs its duties with poise, comfort, and no shortage of upscale style.
