The 2022 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV that’s available in two different lengths that can transport up to eight people and plenty of cargo in comfort and considerable style around Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, Leduc, and further afield. The GMC Yukon is a vehicle of monumental proportions, but if the regular version isn’t big enough for you, there’s also a long-wheelbase Yukon XL that more than lives up to its full-size billing.
There are four different trim levels of 2022 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL to choose from, which are the SLE, SLT, AT4, and the range-topping Denali. Both versions of the Yukon are available in all four trim levels, and the entry-level SLE and the SLT trims are standard rear-wheel-drive with the option of four-wheel-drive available. The difference in length between the Yukon and Yukon XL is just over 38 cm as the Yukon is 533.4 cm long and the Yukon XL is 571.5 cm. The 2022 GMC Yukon wheelbase is 307 cm, and the Yukon XL has a 340.6 cm wheelbase.
A vehicle of these proportions is going to need a substantial engine, and there are three excellent powerplant options to choose from with the 2022 GMC Yukon. The standard unit for all models except the Denali is a 5.3-litre V-8 that develops 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The Yukon’s power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through an excellent ten-speed automatic transmission, regardless of which engine or trim level you decide to go for.
If you’d like even more power, there’s also a 6.2-litre V-8 which provides the Yukon with 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, and this engine is available for the AT4 and standard with the Yukon Denali. When equipped with the available Max Trailering Package, the Yukon can tow up to 3810 kg (8,400 pounds).
Although the Yukon isn’t officially classed as a luxury full-size SUV, you could be forgiven for wondering why that’s the case when you’re inside one, especially a Yukon Denali. This is one of those cases where all trim levels are well worth considering, and even the supposedly entry-level SLE comes with an impressive list of standard equipment that includes the likes of 18-inch alloy wheels, a full complement of power features, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
However, most people will probably go for an SLT or higher, as even the SLT adds such upscale standard features as a 9-speaker Bose sound system, 20-inch alloys, natural leather upholstery, wireless charging for smartphones, and front seats that are both heated and cooled. The AT4 then adds a good degree of genuine off-road capability and styling for those who need or want it. The Denali certainly deserves its top-of-the-range status with a list of standard features that puts some more expensive luxury models firmly in the shade.
